Are you Curious?

My trip to San Francisco would not be as complete if I didn’t get to do this event at the Curiosity Shoppe. I love this shop! It has the most select, thought-out designer gifts. The owners, Lauren and Derek, are also guests in my new book Stencil 201, in which they show us a tasteful way to stencil grasscloth for use as placemats.

Well, the event coincided with a holiday street fair in the Mission so we had plenty of visitors who got to MAKE SOMETHING.

Some used Stained by Sharpie Fabric Markers to make canvas patches…Others used Clearsnap’s Colorbox pigment Ink Pads to make wooden postcards.

An added bonus was I got to finally meet a legend in the DIY world who I had emailed with for years – Grace Hawthorne, one of the founders of Readymade Magazine!Her new venture, Paper Punk, is well worth checking out, talk about a customized building experience!

And so the night was a sweet success, the only thing sweeter were these stenciled cookies by Sumner & Co, aka A Baker in Brooklyn, aka Christian Sumner is also a guest in Stencil 201 and shows y’all how to do it!

Stencil1 at SFMOMA for Book Signing & Demo = FUN!

In 1995, I interned at the SFMOMA. The museum was just built and I color corrected images in their digital lab among other things. I was thrilled just to be a part of the museum! Well, I had a new thrilling time at the SFMOMA when I did a book signing and demo/DIY table!  I basically let people from age 3 to 75 try out some Stencil1 stencils from Stencil 201 and they seemed to really enjoy it! We used Clearsnap’s COLORBOX Pigment Ink Pads to stencil wooden postcards and Stained by Sharpie fabric markers to stencil canvas patches.  Here’s a few images from the event. SCOPE Miami – too much fun!

To SCOPE ART and to all who attended, I say a big, fat THANK YOU! SCOPE is such an important show to me as it balances  street artists with come major,celebrated contemporary artists.  A completely inspiring environment to create art in, wouldn’t you agree?   We had so much fun making wooden postcards and canvas patches using Stained by Sharpie Markers! I am honored to be running a DIY station at the SCOPE ART SHOW in Miami!

This takes place one day only! Saturday December 3rd from 10am -7pm!

Stencil 201 Book Launch: First Event!

Ed Roth returns to the Arena for an Etsy Craft Night to celebrate the launch of his new book, Stencil 201 published by Chronicle Books. Our friends and neighbors at Etsy join him for a night of drinks, DIY stenciling, and stenciled edibles provided by Chris Sumner of Sumner and Company. Bring a t-shirt or canvas tote to stencil using Stained Fabric Markers provided by Sharpie! Canvas pieces and totes will be available for purchase at the event as well.

Fashion’s Night IN

Fashion Night Out

It’s that fun, sparkley time again, Fashion’s Night Out!

Last year I went to several events, shopped, drank, looked at great clothes, all that fun NY nightlife fashion fun. This year I have done a little early shopping and will be doing more of a Fashion’s Night IN, creating a lot of garments and accessories for my next upcoming book Stencil Style. Some things I will be using are Stained by Sharpie Fabric Markers, Martha Stewart Fine Glitter, Clorox Bleach Pens, and my own Stencil1 Sprayers.  Not just t-shirts this time, I’m customizing some huge bangles, a few women’s dress jackets, and men’s ties among other things. Once I get rolling, it tends to become a snowball effect and I want to experiment and see what comes of it. Adding some spray effects to wood bangles, trying combining Martha’s glitter and glass beads for new colors and textures, just getting into it!
