Next week, Ed Roth of Stencil1 will be a guest of the entrepreneur and small business conference, Meta Boost Gather, in Washington, DC.

Earlier this year Ed was invited to become a member of Meta’s New York Leaders Network, which supports small companies like Stencil1 to amplify and build their businesses. With the rapid growth of e-commerce and the pandemic, Stencil1 has had to continually pivot its focus between design, sales, social media and events.

More than ever it’s important that Ed and Stencil1 be in conversation with other independent businesses and Leaders Network helps keep Stencil1 in that dialogue. In the almost 20 years since Stencil1’s inception, Ed continues to reinvent his business while juggling the dual roles of being an artist and business owner in an ever-changing economic climate.

Meta Boost Gather is a two-day conference and will cover the ins and outs of running an independent business. Ed will share his findings through his channels on Facebook and Instagram.

Of Leaders Network and Meta Boost Gather, Ed says, “I am very honored to be a part of Leaders Network. Facebook and Instagram have been an essential tool in growing my business and I look forward to learning more and meeting other small business owners.”

I am so excited to announce that Stencil1 is in the Top 100 for the Fedex Small Business Grant! A huge thank you to those who voted for Stencil1, it’s because of you that we are in the contest! Thank you! And of course a huge thank you to Fedex for this generous offering, a grant of $50,000 is life-changing for our small business.

Fedex has now asked that I submit a video for round 2 and they asked What is your passion as an individual and as a business owner, and how is that passion reflected in your business? I reflected on this question for a day or two, then answered. I have a passion to be creative but I have a stronger philosophy about my work and life in general and so the answer is not to just be creative, it’s to share, empower and have an exchange with people. I simply make a tool, hopefully a good one that people enjoy using, and then they show me how they have created with it and sometimes I get to hear how the stencils have somehow enriched their lives in some way.

If you want to know more of my business and life philosophies, please leave a comment. I enjoy chatting about it!

Thanks again for all your support and thank you Fedex! And wish me luck for round two, I want to keep Stencil1 growing and building a creative community!

Sasha with her New Stencil1 Stencil Set

Announcing a wonderful collaboration, Stencil1 has partnered with the Sasha Project LA and made a new stencil set inspired by Sasha’s favorite images!

The Sasha Project LA and Ed Roth, designer and owner of Stencil1® today announced the release of a new set of stencils inspired by Sasha’s unique art style. Roth in collaboration with Sasha, created the stencil set with the purpose of not only sharing the mission of The Sasha Project LA, but also to motivate people of all ages to show their creative side by using these stencils to demonstrate how art can change their lives in different ways as it has for her.

Sasha was born with Cerebral Palsy (CP) and has found art to be the best way to improve the physical challenges of her CP. She was also born with a strong artistic talent and as soon as she discovered it when painting denim in her backyard, she and her mother thought of a way to give back to the community. Painting jeans started as a fun and highly therapeutic activity for Sasha – This is how The Sasha Project LA was created and Sasha started painting denim for a donation that later would be for the therapy art programs at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

This exclusive set of stencils are consistent with the imaginative and creative mind that Sasha possesses and will only be available for purchase on her website. The set includes a thunderbolt, a heart, a unicorn and a rainbow, each of them designed to create colorful artistic results. All of the stencils are washable and reusable and can be used on any surface including glass, concrete, wood, metal, paper, fabric and ceramic.

Proceeds collected by this collaboration will help thousands of patients at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles where art programs take place. The CHLA Mark Taper-Johnny Mercer Artists program is designed for patients to express themselves through visual arts, music, dance and drama; giving Sasha and others the opportunity to keep healing through art.

We love doing custom stencil work and we also do custom installation. This recent job was to cut a two layer fish stencil and install it for a west village oyster bar, Osteria 57, located at 57 W 10th St, New York, NY. Osteria 57 is best known for its infusion of seafood and vegetarian dishes that can satisfy your hunger and create a cozy atmosphere and provide a great service. WE hope our fish greets you kindly when you visit this beautiful reataurant!

A little about the restaurant, “Osteria 57 opened its doors in September 2017 thanks to passionate and hardworking entrepreneur Emanuele Nigro. By opening this restaurant, Emanuele wanted to pursue his vision of offering New Yorkers a different kind of menu, combining seafood choices with vegetarian dishes. His approach to food is based upon the belief that our experiences are interconnected to the point that what we eat, the wine we drink, and the atmosphere around us, can facilitate and support the flourishing of our souls. Located in the heart of Greenwich Village, on 10th street right off 6th avenue, the space is composed by a main intimate dining room with a bar, and the more private back room which is the perfect location for events and parties.”

It was a pleasure doing this install. if you want to know more about custom stencils and custom stencil installation work please contact us at info@stencil1.com

Stencil1 founder, Ed Roth, was recently interviewed for the NGLCCNY blog. The National LGBT Chamber of Commerce New York (nglccNY) provides valuable business development opportunities, financial access, and educational resources to LGBT and allied businesses in the New York Metro area. As the official Metro New York affiliate chamber of the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce, nglccNY is the voice of thousands of LGBT-owned businesses and actively promotes and creates supplier diversity and procurement opportunities for its growing base of corporate partners and business members.http://www.nglccny.org/
Of his membership, Ed says

“Everyone has been so supportive. It’s been cool. I am grateful that the companies NGLCC works with have supplier diversity programs. I had sales into other retailers before my certification. However, it is definitely an added plus. It’s important to these companies to include LGBT businesses among their vendors. While the deciding factor is your product, the NGLCC certification gets another person under that roof rallying for you when you aren’t there. Besides following up with buyers, I follow up with the diversity team. It’s another contact point, they become an ally for your brand.”
