The pineapple image is celebrated as a fun design element and yet it has for centuries symbolized “Welcome” in decor and architecture. A rare fruit to Europe and early Colonial America, obtained not locally but through trade, the pineapple became very in demand. Only wealthy hosts could afford to offer this fruit to their guests so it became a symbol of generosity and affluence.
