For Women’s History Month, Ed proposed to his client do a Dolly Parton Mural. Ed started by creating a Dolly stencil art image

And scaled it up for the large chalkboard wall.

Dolly Parton, the legendary country singer and songwriter, is known not only for her incredible musical talent but also for her philanthropic work. In 1995, she founded the Dollywood Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims to improve literacy rates among children in the United States. The foundation’s flagship program is the Imagination Library, which provides free books to children from birth to age five. Since its inception, the Imagination Library has distributed over 150 million books to children in the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. The program has had a significant impact on childhood literacy rates, with participating children showing improved reading skills and a love for learning.

In addition to her work with the Dollywood Foundation, Dolly Parton has also contributed to disaster relief efforts and other charitable causes. Following the devastating wildfires that swept through her home state of Tennessee in 2016, she established the My People Fund, which provided financial assistance to families who had lost their homes. She has also donated millions of dollars to support research into COVID-19 vaccines and treatments. In November of 2022, Jeff Besos gifted Dolly with $100 Million dollars to  support any charitable cause she chooses. Dolly Parton’s philanthropic work is a testament to her generosity and commitment to making a positive impact on the world.

The client, Chalk Gyms,  pride themselves on great music in there gym, so picking Dolly was a sweet fit.

Celebrating a record-breaking holiday season for Amazon,
with customers purchasing more items than ever before from our selling partners
from aboutamazon.com

We’re thrilled to share that Ed Roth and Stencil1 were featured in an AboutAmazon article regarding the company’s record-breaking holiday sales! Small businesses played a big part in Amazon’s success this holiday season, and we’re honored to have been included in the article.

It’s been an amazing year for us here at Stencil1, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our amazing customers. Thank you for helping us make this holiday season a success! We can’t wait to see what the new year brings.

This Blog post is coming to you from Margie Endres, a powerhouse wife and mom of two. Always busy and always squeezing in time for her love of DIY. Elevating her starter home, one project at a time. Look out for more projects by Margie an check her out on Instagram at @EnCasaEndres

Being a mom of two keeps me super busy and there’s always a pile of laundry waiting to be done. That room became a catch all. It was dull and didn’t inspire me to get the chore done. My goal was to add a pop of color and make it more inviting. Wallpaper prices were a no go & not to mention the patience required to get it done right. Enter @stencil1 to the rescue! It allowed me to work at my own pace, within my budget and pressure free. I enjoyed working with this stencil so much. I took the laundry room from drab to fab! Now I don’t avoid laundry at all.

Pros: Simple, beginner friendly supplies can de used

Cons: You’re gonna fall in love and start thinking of other projects that can be Stencil1’ed.

Tools I used:

Scissors, to prep the stencil

Paint brush, a 2” worked perfect for this project

Two small cans of paint, color of choice

Painters tape to secure the stencil to the wall

2-in-1 Monstera Tropical Leaf Wall Stencil

Step 1:

Detach your Stencil1 carefully with a scissors.

Step 2:

Choose your canvas. The plan here, was to create an accent wall with just the right amount of excitement in this small space. I taped the stencil to the wall using painters tape, to ensure it was flat on the surface.

Step 3:

Chose my paint colors and with a 2” brush I went to town. I freely continued to attach the stencil along the wall. The process was way too easy. Repeated this step until the wall was entirely full.

The final step: stand back and relish in the moment.

Thank you,

Margie Endres

In the past, I posted about recapitulation. Sometimes I say to myself, I didn’t get much done today, but then I sit down, take a deep breath and think about my day and what I actually did. This process really helps me relax and feel some sort of accomplishment.  To do this for the year can be very rewarding.

TIP: Looking through your phone’s photos by MONTH really helps you “remember” the highlights! Here’s my year in review.

January for me is usually about the old cliche of setting goals and starting the year by setting the tone of how you want life to be. It’s about cleaning up, taking stock, minimizing and organizing. I love to create newness in my life so I launched a marketing campaign for my Stencil1FX makeup stencils with 30 makeup artists. Seeing their work was just so fun and rewarding.

In February I created a mural for Black History Month for my client Chalk Gyms, using you guessed it, chalk.

Also, I geared up for the Midwestern superstore chain, Meijer, to feature a larger offering of Stencil1 products in store. I was also deep into planning for their Pride selections in June.

March was when I got to get out of the house more with my creative friends. Spring weather will do this in New York. Patrón invited my friend Ian and I to a cultural event, Residencia Patrón, highlighting the artisans of Mexico and serving their premium tequila. So inspiring, I love all things Mexico and am forever inspired by this country and its people…

…so in April I took a little time off to warm up in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I don’t think anything good comes when the body and mind are stressed, and so this after-winter break was the perfect recharge.

In May I was invited by Meta to Washington, DC, for their Meta Boost Gather Conference. A highlight of the conference was meeting with Senator Gillibrand’s office to discuss small business needs and current legislation. I met so many entrepreneurs using Facebook and Instagram to help grow their businesses, so grateful to be a Leader in the Meta Group!

June is our month! As a gay-owned business, Pride is a big deal to us. Stencil1 kicked off June with a bevy of appearances for Pride month as retailers were eager to celebrate. I designed another custom mural for Chalk Gym of icon and gay liberation hero, Marsha P. Johnson.

Meijer launched a special Stencil1 collection of Pride stencils.

This was a fun one–I also appeared on air with QVC as part of their Small Business Spotlight to celebrate LGBTQ+-owned small businesses. QVC’s “guy with an eye for style” Alberti Popaj and I chatted about stencils and running an independent business. I can’t believe I was on QVC and I hope to do more of this in 2023!

I hosted a Pride DIY event with Moxy Hotel Times Square. Guests sipped on cocktails while customizing bandanas with Stencil1 stencils.

During Pride weekend in New York City, Stencil1 was featured at the Soho Levi’s store, customizing denim with our suite of Pride imagery and other Stencil1 favorites.

After all that, July was a time for rest and inspiration. I flew to Spain and Portugal to recharge my creative juices. Barcelona is one of my favorite places–the tile, the architecture, the food, the sea, the energy, the attitude and life balance.

Once back, August and September were all about prepping for the Halloween season—Stencil1’s biggest sales period. September and October again proved to be our biggest money makers as the makeup stencils really shine during this time. People love to dress up and the makeup stencils are the perfect touch to accentuate a costume. Also in October, I personally got in my studio more and worked on artwork that I hope to build up for a show in 2023.

November had two surprising events as well. Amazon reached out to me and asked that I lead a card-making DIY class at their holiday event highlighting small businesses. They featured our stencils their Amazon Holiday Gift Guide!

AND Lowe’s invited Stencil1 to their 2022 Into the Blue: Lowe’s Product Pitch Event in Charlotte, NC. They decided to pick up Stencil1 stencils and other new products that will be launching in 2023! I loved Charlotte, loved the Lowe’s people I met and of course the good news to reach more customers.

To cap off the year, I made a December appearance back at Levi’s for their Holiday Customization Workshop. 10 artists in 10 cities were invited and I helmed the NYC Soho shop.

So to that person on New Years who says, Well, this year sucked, let’s hope next year is better, maybe recapitulation will help them see that it wasn’t all bad.

And PS: Of course I didn’t share the stomach bugs I had, the car accident I was in, or the many challenges of running a small business, but I like to put out positive energy, practice the law of attraction and move forward, doing my best to do what I do best, paint and inspire people to take some time to be creative. Peace! Ed

This past weekend was truly incredible for me and the rest of the Stencil1 team. We had the incredible opportunity to host a Holiday Customization Workshop at the Levi’s® Store in Soho, NYC. We were able to customize new and pre-loved Levi’s® clothing with our winter-themed and classic designs.

It was amazing to see so many people come out and support us. We had a steady stream of customers coming in to get their custom-made pieces. Everyone was so excited to be able to create something unique and special that they can keep for years to come. I met so many people who were visiting from Europe, they love the Levi’s brand and especially having it customized by a New York artist.

The event was part of a nationwide event consisting of 10 artists in 10 cities. It was amazing to be part of it and to be able to connect with so many different people. Overall, it was a great experience and I’m so grateful for the opportunity. I’d like to thank everyone who came out and supported us. It was a truly special weekend!

Come celebrate (and wear!) the arts in NYC with me on December 10th & 11th at the Levi’s® Store @ Soho.  I’ll be customizing your new and pre-loved Levi’s® with my own personal touch – complimentary for Levi’s® Red Tab™ members.
