This how-to is a little more detailed as we are using a two layer stencil. What’s great about it is you get more depth with two layers and it’s still easy to do! You will need 2 or 3 colors of acrylic paint, a flat brush, stencil brsuhes, a canvas such as this square one from Hand Made Modern, and the two-layer Lotus stencil by Stencil1.
Start by painting the base color of your canvas, we used gray paint and added some streaks of light gray for texture.
Once the canvas is dry, place your stencil where you want the lotus to appear, starting with your silhouette layer. You can cut the stencil in two pieces or leave it in one piece and use each part separately as we did.
In an up and down motion, stencil in the open area of the silhouette area. You can use masking tape to hold the stencil in place and to not paint outside the lines. This may take two applications for a nice coverage.
Left the stencil once done and let this layer dry.
Next, position the second or detailed layer of the stencil over the silhouette you painted. We also included registration marks to align these layers or you can eyeball it to line up properly.
Fill in the detailed stencil with a darker paint using very little paint in an up and down lotion. This stencil is very detailed so using very little paint is important.
Lift your stencil to reveal your art!
